Parliamentarian Position Available

Job Description

The task is to manage the ordinances that control the functioning of SAMPE. The jobholder will draft amendments and manage changes through the Executive Cabinet and Board of Directors approval procedures.

Because of the complexity of the rules it is envisaged that the minimum effective term of office is two to three years.

The job can be seen as a longer term role in the society or as a stepping stone to becoming an officer of the executive cabinet.

The jobholder is invited to attend all Executive Cabinet meetings as expected to contribute to the strategic planning of the society.

This is a volunteer position.

Accepting Applications

From Oct. 1, 2008 until 1st January 2009

Required qualifications include:

• A knowledge of the composites industry
• The patience and dedication to deal with complex rules and by-laws.
• An ability to contribute to SAMPE’s strategic planning
• Ability to participate in English language meetings and understand rules and by-laws written in English.
• Potential for leadership skills
• Great sense of volunteerism

Duties:

• Commitment to a two to three-year term on the Executive Cabinet.
• Attend all Board meetings/Cabinet meetings/conference calls.
• Monitor activities of Executive Director in carrying out program goals and policies set by the cabinet.
• Represent SAMPE positively to the global community.
• Assist SAMPE in gaining support by exercising personal and professional contacts whenever possible.

Time Commitment/Year (16 - 22 days)

• Commitment to attend two 3-day meetings and two 2-day meeting a year in the US [10 days]
• Six travel days to attend meetings above.
• Preparation time for meetings/calls. [4 days]
• Minimum of four one/two-hour conference calls per year. [0.5 - 1 day]
